Your donation has twice the value in the Big Give Christmas Challenge – on now until December 8th!

As the festive season nears, many people consider making a special donation to a charity or favourite project to reflect the spirit of the season.

Until midday GMT on December 8th, The Big Give Christmas Challenge 2020 project doubles every donation you make.

For just seven days , it offers supporters of participating charities the opportunity to have their donation doubled by visiting their site at theBigGive.org.uk

There are many different types of charity participating, but those reading this blog may like to know that a good number of deserving arts organisations are asking for your help through this scheme.

How does it work? Well, firstly the Big Give organisation brings together a range of philanthropists and larger scale donors to produce a large pot of money (in the millions).

Then, when individuals like you or me donate to the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge, the money we donate is matched by an equal amount taken from the already created pot of money, making your donations worth twice as much to the participating charities. The matching continues either until the matching fund is empty, or until the midday deadline on 8th December.

Remember- all your donations to participating charities will be doubled., as long as matching funds remain in the pot.

The Christmas Challenge, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Sir Alec Reed CBE, is the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign. Since the Big Give launched the Christmas Challenge campaign in 2008, it has raised over £110 million for thousands of charity projects.

I have spent some time looking through the arts organisations participating and here are a few suggestions of some of the really worthwhile projects that deserve your support. Please give whatever you can. It all makes a difference.

Watch Now for Families: Little Angel Theatre’s MR GOBBLE’S GARDEN

Here’s another brilliant show for younger audiences from the pioneering Little Angel Theatre.

In their second outing, Scoop the Junk lady and Bertie the Bottle welcome you back into their special space, where they make things out of the stuff other people throw away, and use them to tell stories. This time, they’ll tell you the story of MR GOBBLE’S GARDEN.

He looks like a slipper with a mop for some hair.
For when he’s not gardening, he rests in his chair.
But, more than anything in the world, and of this I am certain
Mr Gobble is extremely proud of his garden.

Mr Gobble is the grumpiest man you’ll ever meet in your life, but his pride and joy is his garden. He tends to his herbs, fruit and sunflowers, and is growing an enormous Orchid to enter into a competition. But one day, a mischievous mole comes digging, and Mr Gobble has to learn an important lesson about kindness, sharing and friendship.

The show lasts approximately 15 minutes and is available now

Little Angel’s FLYBOY AND THE ROBOT

Here’s another brilliant show for younger audiences from the pioneering Little Angel Theatre.

FLYBOY AND THE ROBOT is an original story from multi-disciplinary artist and musician Matthew Robins.

Matthew has been writing and performing an on-going series of stories about Flyboy for the last 10 years.  Using black paper, a scalpel, and a piano they are his own home-made way of recreating all the things he loves – 1950s science-fiction films, Sesame Street cartoons, the Beano, old Tom Waits records.  This story (Flyboy and the Robot) is one of Matthew’s favourites to perform as it combines many of his favourite things, i.e. crocodiles, robots, and sausages, and lots of diminished-seventh chords.

When there isn’t a pandemic Matthew also performs with the other musicians in his band, but in this special performance filmed at the Little Angel Theatre in London, he has to do it alone – with some help from Tim Spooner operating the puppets.

The show lasts approximately 12 minutes.
