Bush Theatre offers Freelancer Skills sessions in February

The Bush’s friendly team will be hosting a series of informative and interactive workshops in February, which are a great opportunity for theatre freelancers to hone their practical and business skills. Tickets from just £3 are selling fast.

Money an issue? There are still free bursary places available for every workshop – just email bushgreen@bushtheatre.co.uk to apply for a bursary place.

MGCfutures announces new round of Bursary winners

These 20 talented people are the recipients of this year’s MGCfutures Bursaries.

The MGC Bursary team said of the award’s sixth round “This year we’re pleased to be working with London Performance Studios to support their new role of Cultural Entrepreneur as well as working with Dance Base in Edinburgh to support a Hip-Hop Dance Artist Traineeship.

We’ve also had the pleasure of working with South House to provide a Creative Development Residency at their studio in Faversham

And two recipients have been awarded the Stephanie Arditti bursary in memory of costume supervisor Stephanie Arditti, generously supported by designer Christopher Oram

We are grateful to the Theatre Community Fund for their generous support.”

Bursaries available for arts fundraisers

If you are, or know anyone who is an early stage arts fundraiser, then this will be of interest. RAISE: Arts, Culture & Heritage supports access to professional development opportunities for arts, culture and heritage fundraisers across England through networking events, mentoring, professional development and bursaries.

Bursaries of up to £1,500 are currently available to enable arts, culture and heritage fundraisers to study the Certificate and Diploma qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.

RAISE is an Arts Council England funded four-year programme delivered in partnership with the Chartered Institute’s Cultural Sector Network, Black Fundraisers UK and Young Arts Fundraisers. They aim to make the charitable case for culture, champion arts and cultural sector fundraising. empower arts and cultural sector fundraisers to achieve higher levels of fundraising practice, and support the drive for greater inclusivity, diversity and representation within the sector.

They run a rolling programme of events and peer-to-peer networking opportunities both in London and across the UK.

Theatres Trust offers bursary places for sustainability conference in November

The Theatres Trust’s Conference taking place on 4th November is focused on the theatre sector’s responsibility to contribute to increased sustainability.

Coinciding with COP26, the UN Climate Summit in Glasgow, Conference 21: Making Theatre Sustainable will show how, as we emerge from the pandemic, the theatre sector can and must play its part in protecting our planet and in advocating for a greener future more widely.

This will interest many theatre practitioners, of course. But some of the most passionate may not be financially able to pay the (already discounted from previous years) ticket price.

Which is why it’s particularly great that HQ Theatres have come forward to sponsor a number of bursary places to this year’s Conference for freelancers, early career professionals and students..

MGCfutures awards celebrate fifth year of creative bursaries

On 20th April the latest round of beneficiaries of the Michael Grandage Comany’s MGCFutures awards were announced.

The fund was created to support early-career theatre-makers in developing their talebts within the theatre industry, advising and supporting their development in an area which has previously had very littkle of this kind of creative infrastructure.

The fund announced: “Our largest cohort yet, 33 theatre-makers join the MGCfutures family. Celebrating a wide range of disciplines from choreographers to digital creators, writers, set and costume designers and our first casting director.

We’re pleased to be working with the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre to support an opportunity for a trainee Literary Associate as well as working with Pilot Theatre in York to support two Creative Assistant roles.

And this year two bursaries are awarded in memory of Costume Supervisor Stephanie Arditti. Eve Kann is being supported to develop her skills as a designer and Kitty Hawkins receives funds to help her build an extensive library of essential reference books. These awards are generously supported by Designer Christopher Oram.

Special thanks must also go to the Theatre Community Fund for their generous support this year.”

The recipients, who applied to receive up to £5,000 each, will also benefit from the ever-growing MGCfutures network of support and guidance. Good luck to them all as they progress their theatre careers!
