New streaming service brings musicals and more to your home for the price of a programme!

Launching today is a new, globally-available streaming service which invites you to watch classic stage musicals and plays in your home for a small fee.

Stage2view is a collaboration between three stage and film producers, and although its range is limited at the start, the offerings are choice – amongst them the phenomenal Theatre Royal Drury Lane’s 42nd STREET, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, KINKY BOOTS, the Palladium production of THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS and FROM HERE TO ETERNITY, as well as the brilliant play about painter Mark Rothko, John Logan’s RED (with Alfred Molina and Alfred Enoch) to ensure that play lovers aren’t ignored. For younger viewers there’s also Jacqueline Wilson’s HETTY FEATHER.

Viewers can rent the filmed recordings for 48 hours for a flat fee of £4.99/$5.99/5.99euro. During the rental period they can watch the show up to four times. The recordings are being made available globally (unlike other more restrictive platforms), which is a real benefit.

It is expected that the number of shows on offer will increase quickly, so this should be a real boon for Christmas when we might just need a big show to stay in and “go out” to!

Dispensing with monthly subscriptions and long contracts that other platforms rely on, this does seem very good value, considering that a fiver would just about buy you a theatre programme in the real world. Let’s hope the prices don’t jump too much after the introductory phase!

I’m certainly going to give it a go – do let me know how you find it too!
